Tangut Character 17CEF

3312/6136

𗳯 is a Tangut character, part of the script developed for the Western Xia kingdom in northwestern China around 1036. Its Unicode label identifies a code position; it does not translate the character. Tangut writing appeared in official, private, and religious texts, including Buddhist works translated from Chinese; it continued after the kingdom fell before later becoming obsolete. A font with Tangut support is needed to display it.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𗳯 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
