What 𗴯 means
A Tangut dictionary, not the code label, gives its reading.
𗴯 is a Tangut character; Tangut was the language of Western Xia. “TANGUT IDEOGRAPH-17D2F” identifies the character by number, not by word or pronunciation.
Tangut script began in 1036, when emperor Li Yuanhao ordered it for state-building and probably a Tangut Buddhist canon. It drew on Chinese forms and earlier Khitan scripts, but was not derived from Chinese. Texts included Buddhist scripture, law codes, Confucian classics translated from Chinese, military treatises, and literature. A manuscript found at Khara-khoto in Inner Mongolia probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. As of 2025, the latest datable Tangut inscriptions are on Buddhist pillars in Baoding from 1502.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗴯 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
