What 𗵯 means
𗵯 is a Tangut character; its name is not a translation. Scholars have reconstructed how it may have sounded. A reconstructed reading estimates pronunciation; it does not provide a plain-language gloss.
Tangut writing was created under Western Xia imperial authority around 1036. It was used for state records, Buddhist texts, and translations of Chinese works, as well as private and literary writing.
Tangut writing continued into the later Yuan and Ming periods, with use documented as late as 1502. That history belongs to the script, not to a verified first appearance or meaning change for this individual character.
Why does 𗵯 look Chinese?
Tangut borrowed visual principles from Chinese writing, but it is a separate script. A reader cannot work out Tangut words from Chinese alone, or read Chinese from Tangut alone.
Tangut characters can include parts associated with sound or meaning. Specialists study those parts within Tangut dictionaries; a familiar-looking stroke is not a Chinese translation.
