What 𗷂 means

Its dictionary meaning is soft textile fiber.

A Tangut–Chinese dictionary uses 緜 as the Chinese gloss and separately records a reconstructed Tangut reading. The gloss gives the meaning; the reconstruction gives the sound.

The earliest known surviving example is an official Guazhou document dated 1072; Tangut writing continued into the Ming period. The characters resemble Chinese writing but record another language. Possible Khitan influence is debated.

A Tangut word preserved in historical texts.

緜 is the Chinese gloss, not the Tangut character’s Chinese pronunciation.
