What 𗷔 means
The reconstructed reading is written twu¹; it does not settle an English gloss.
Is 𗷔 Chinese or Tangut? It is Tangut. Chinese and Khitan writing influenced the script’s design, but Tangut is distinct. A documented Tangut homophone group links it with 𗕧 (“similar”) and 𗜻: they share a reconstructed reading, not an identity.
The Tangut script began under the Western Xia state around 1036, serving government and Buddhist texts. Its official, religious, and literary use continued under Yuan and Ming rule before the script fell out of use.

1Why does 𗷔 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
