What 𗽻 means
A Tangut dictionary translates 𗽻 as “tool.”
Western Xia established the Tangut script around 1036 to support its government. Scholars think a Tangut collection of Buddhist scriptures was a main goal, and a native script set the kingdom apart from neighboring Song China. The earliest surviving dated Tangut writing may be from 1070/71.
The neighboring Khitan people had writing systems before the Tangut script; Western Xia followed their example. Tangut took visual and structural inspiration from Chinese writing but remained distinct. It continued under Yuan and Ming rule; Tangut texts include official, private, Buddhist and translated Chinese works. Manuscripts vary in glyph form; Unicode unifies variants a source does not treat as separate characters, so the encoded glyph need not match any one manuscript.
A lexical character in a historical script, not a pictorial icon.
Its Chinese-like form does not make it Chinese.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗽻 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
