Tangut ideograph 17FD0

4049/6136

Li Fanwen’s 2008 dictionary gives 𗿐 the gloss “light yellow.” The glyph belongs to the Western Xia (Xixia) writing system; if it appears as a box, the active font may lack Tangut coverage.

What 𗿐 means

“Light yellow” is its dictionary gloss. The label U17FD0 identifies the entry; it does not translate its meaning.

The Tangut-ruled Western Xia (Xixia) state commissioned its writing system in 1036 to support government and a distinct cultural identity; it was also used for Buddhist scripture. Surviving manuscripts date from the mid-11th to early 13th centuries. After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued under the Yuan dynasty and on later religious monuments. The latest known example is a pair of inscribed pillars dated 1502.

1

Why does 𗿐 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
