tangut ideograph-1801a

Tangut Ideograph 1801A

𘀚 is a character in the Tangut script, used for an extinct language; “1801A” is an inventory label, not a translation. The script was created around 1036 for state records and identity, later carrying Buddhist texts and Chinese translations. First attested in 1072, it was still used in 1502, long after the state fell in 1227. A Tangut scholar wrote in 1190 that the Tangut and Chinese scripts shared roots.
