What 𘁟 means
Its Unicode label identifies the character, not its Tangut meaning.
Tangut 1805F is the label for one written sign, not a word that can be translated on its own. A Tangut dictionary entry or the surrounding passage is needed to tell how 𘁟 is read and what it means.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It gave Western Xia official writing and marked a distinct identity.
In 1036, Tangut emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script during state-building. It served the Western Xia government and a Tangut Buddhist canon—a collection of Buddhist scriptures—with translations from Chinese and Tibetan. Surviving manuscripts also preserve Chinese works on government, morality, military affairs, and literature.
A Khara-Khoto manuscript from the 12th or early 13th century shows this range in practice. Tangut writing drew on Chinese writing and Khitan state scripts, but it remained a separate system; knowing Chinese does not let you read Tangut. After the empire fell, Tangut left daily use, and bilingual materials later brought it back into scholarship.
Scholarly rather than conversational: outside a Tangut text, it is best treated as a character specimen whose meaning depends on context.
Is Tangut Chinese? No. Tangut is a separate writing system; a similar-looking stroke does not give this character a Chinese reading.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘁟 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
