What 𘁯 means
𘁯 is a Tangut character glossed “claw.”
Around 1036, the Western Xia state created Tangut script for government and Buddhist texts, while establishing a written identity distinct from China’s Song dynasty. It remained in use during the Yuan and Ming periods, then became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
Why does Tangut look like Chinese writing?
Tangut is distinct, though Chinese writing influenced its design.
