What 𘃊 means
Entry 5690 is glossed “magic.” The Unicode chart maps 𘃊 to that entry in a 2008 Tangut–Chinese dictionary, and the dictionary’s English index supplies the gloss. Treat it as a compact translation; the surrounding Tangut sentence gives the precise sense.
Is 𘃊 Chinese?
No: this is a Tangut character. Tangut writing was commissioned in 1036 by Li Yuanhao, ruler of the Western Xia state, as part of state-building and preparation of a Tangut Buddhist canon. It also carried translations of Chinese histories and Confucian works, encyclopedias, military texts, and literature. Tangut followed Khitan neighbors who had already created scripts, and its character forms drew visual and compositional inspiration from Chinese writing; that history does not make 𘃊 Chinese.
How do I type 𘃊?
Use a Tangut-aware input method and font. A 2026 Rime Xunpin layout documents input by reconstructed Tangut pronunciation, strokes, or four-corner codes, a shape-based lookup. Select U180CA if several candidates appear. The input method enters the character; a Tangut-capable font draws it.
Historical and specialist: 𘃊 is Tangut writing associated with the Western Xia state.
Outside a Tangut-reading context, label its gloss as “magic”; the glyph cannot explain its meaning by itself.

2Why does 𘃊 appear as a box?
It can. The selected font lacks Tangut coverage; use one that includes Tangut characters.
Can a Chinese keyboard type 𘃊?
Not through ordinary Mandarin Pinyin. That input method searches Mandarin readings, so enter the character with a Tangut-aware layout.
