Tangut Ideograph-1812E

𘄮 is a Tangut character, but its inventory label is not a translation. Find its sense in a Tangut dictionary or the surrounding Tangut text; on its own, it is a reference to a historical writing system, not a standard chat reaction.

What 𘄮 means

It is a Tangut character, but its label is not a translation.

The Tangut script was used to write the language of the Western Xia kingdom. The 12th-century Wén Hǎi (“Sea of Characters”), a Tangut rhyming dictionary, lists 𘄮 at 41.172 under Rhyme 32, one of its sound-based groups. That is a lookup path, not an English gloss; use a Tangut dictionary entry or the surrounding text to identify its sense.

Western Xia promoted the script in 1036 as part of state-building; a major project was a Tangut collection of Buddhist scriptures. Tangut writing adapted visual and structural features of Chinese writing, and the Tangut followed their Khitan neighbors in developing a state script. It marked an identity distinct from Song China and served Buddhist texts, government records, and translations of Chinese works. It also appears in Yuan-era inscriptions and on mid-Ming stone columns; those later monuments do not establish a new everyday meaning for 𘄮.

What does it mean when someone sends 𘄮?

Treat it as a historical-script reference, not a standard reaction.

Alone in casual chat, 𘄮 is cryptic unless you can read Tangut. Ask the sender for the source or a gloss before deciding what they mean. With a translation or quotation, the surrounding material supplies the message; this character is part of the cited text.

Why does 𘄮 show as a box?

The font may not include the glyph.

Unicode identifies the character, while your device's font draws its visible shape. Without Tangut coverage, a font may show a box or blank instead. That display problem does not mean the underlying character has changed.

Historical and specialist; cryptic alone in casual chat.

Give a source or gloss before expecting someone to read it as a message.

Why does 𘄮 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
