What 𘆝 means
It means “horse” in Tangut.
The Tangut script recorded an extinct language, drawing on Chinese and Khitan scripts. In 𘓢, 𘓐 (“person”) above 𘆝 forms one character for “to ride a horse.” Why is 𘆝 a box? The font lacks Tangut coverage.
How did Tangut script begin?
Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered its creation in 1036.
Western Xia used the script to distinguish itself from Song China and to write Buddhist, Chinese, and Tibetan texts. An official document from 1072 is cited as the earliest transmitted example; a 1502 inscription shows later use. A Western Xia bronze pass uses 𘆝 in a phrase translated “burn the horses,” an order to ride urgently.

1Why does 𘆝 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
