What 𘇃 means

A Tangut index gives its reconstructed sound, not a gloss.

An index to a 2008 Tangut–Chinese dictionary transcribes it as .wejr, a reconstructed pronunciation rather than an English translation.

How did Tangut writing evolve?

It served Western Xia and continued after its fall.

Created around 1036 for Western Xia's official and cultural needs, the script appears in official, private, and Buddhist texts. Chinese writing influenced its square style, but Tangut wrote another language. After the Mongol conquest, it continued under the Mongol-led Yuan and later Ming dynasties, then became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
