Text symbol

What 𘊍 means

It refers to one named supernatural being.

Tangut lexicons treat it as a specific being rather than a general label. The code-point label is mechanical: it tells you which encoded character you have, not its Tangut meaning.

The script was created under Western Xia emperor Li Yuanhao around 1036 to write Tangut and support a distinct state culture. A major purpose was a Tangut Buddhist canon, a collection of Buddhist scriptures, alongside translations of Chinese works and other official, private, and religious texts. A Khara-khoto manuscript probably dates from the 12th or early 13th century; the site's large Tangut library was excavated in 1908–1909. After Western Xia fell, Tangut texts continued under Yuan and Ming rule before the script became obsolete.

What does it mean if someone sends 𘊍?

Treat it as a Tangut reference, not a mood cue.

Its role has changed more than its dictionary meaning: it belonged to medieval Tangut texts, while as of 2026 it survives chiefly in research and digital type design. A modern sender may be showing a rare historical character or quoting Tangut material; read the message around it before assigning a mood.

If it appears as a box, that is a rendering problem, not a second meaning: your font or fallback lacks a Tangut glyph. A font with Tangut coverage can draw it, and different typefaces may reflect different historical shape choices.

Specialist, historical, and typographic: using it signals Tangut interest more than a conversational mood.

Its ghost gloss does not make it interchangeable with Chinese 鬼.

Worth knowing

  • Tangut dictionaries do not share one universal sort order, so reconstructed readings such as po can be more useful than a code-point label in scholarship.

Questions people ask

2

Why does 𘊍 show as a box?

It is a font problem. Your current font or fallback lacks Tangut coverage; choose a font that supports the script.

Is 𘊍 Chinese?

No. It is a Tangut character from a separate historic writing system inspired by Chinese character design; it is not a Chinese character itself.
