What 𘋈 means
A ground rat.
Tangut was the language of the Western Xia kingdom in northwestern China. Its square script drew visual ideas from Chinese writing but served a separate language.
Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036 to support the state and translate Buddhist scriptures into Tangut. Tangut rulers followed the example of the Khitan, a neighboring people with scripts of their own. Surviving Tangut books also include secular works translated from Chinese.
