In Tangut, 𘋍 is the word for tasting. The script was used in Western Xia state records and Buddhist texts; its Chinese-like form does not make this a Chinese character.

What 𘋍 means

It is the Tangut verb “to taste.”

Tangut is a separate, now-extinct language from Chinese. Its square writing system draws on the Chinese character tradition but writes Tangut words.

The script was commissioned around 1036–37 for official writing and teaching. Its earliest surviving document, from 1072, is an official dispatch to a military inspector. Tangut writing also carried Buddhist texts and continued after Western Xia fell in 1227. Scholars debate whether the earlier script of the neighboring Khitan people influenced its design; resemblance alone does not prove a direct link.
