What 𘋨 means
The dictionary gloss is “emperor.”
Tangut script was developed around 1036 for Western Xia state-building and Buddhist translation. In the 12th-century dictionary Sea of Writing, 𘋨 appears as a head character—the first character listed for an entry. Tangut writing continued for centuries after Western Xia fell; the latest-known inscription is dated 1502.
Tangut characters were constructed with Chinese writing as a model, but Tangut is a separate script: 𘋨 is not a Han character. Its Unicode name is generated from the code point, so it identifies the character rather than translating its meaning.
It signals historical Tangut texts or scholarly discussion of the script.
It may resemble Chinese writing, but it is Tangut; a Han character cannot replace it.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘋨 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
