What 𘋶 means
It is glossed “ghost” or “spirit” in Tangut.
A 2008 Tangut–Chinese dictionary gives that gloss for entry 5580. Tangut was created around 1036 under Li Yuanhao, Western Xia’s first emperor, to write the Tangut language and help build the state. It also followed neighboring Khitan rulers, who had created scripts of their own. Tangut signs drew visual and structural inspiration from Chinese writing, but the script did not descend from Chinese. Surviving Tangut texts include official writing, Buddhist scriptures, and translations of Chinese works, including secular books.
Someone sent me 𘋶. What does it mean?
Treat it first as a reference to Tangut writing.
The dictionary offers two English glosses, “ghost” and “spirit”; surrounding words help decide which fits. A blank box means your font or app cannot display this Tangut glyph, not that someone sent a different character.
Questions people ask
1Why does 𘋶 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
