tangut ideograph-1834a

Tangut character 1834A

4939/6136

𘍊 is a Tangut (Xixia) character; “Tangut Ideograph-1834A” is a code label, not a translation. Commissioned in 1036, the script helped mark Western Xia identity and translate Buddhist scriptures. It drew on Chinese writing and followed Khitan scripts from about a century earlier, but was not derived from Chinese characters. Tangut writing continued after Western Xia fell in 1227; an inscription dates to 1502.

What 𘍊 means

The code-based name is not its Tangut reading. Unicode builds Tangut ideograph names from code points, so “1834A” identifies the entry rather than translating its word. To read 𘍊 in a historical passage, consult a Tangut dictionary and the surrounding text.

Why does 𘍊 appear as a box?

That usually means the app’s font or fallback cannot draw the Tangut glyph. Try a font with Tangut coverage; the character’s Unicode identity stays the same.
