What 𘍠 means
𘍠 means “mortar,” the bowl used with a pestle for crushing.
Developed in 1036 under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao, Tangut writing recorded the Tangut language and supported the state in northwestern China. Its models included Chinese writing and scripts used by neighboring Khitan people.
The earliest known transmitted Tangut document dates to 1072. Tangut texts include Buddhist works, translated classics, military writing, encyclopedias and literature. A Buddhist inscription on pillars erected at Baoding in 1502, long after Western Xia fell, shows the script remained in use; it does not document a change in 𘍠’s meaning. Fonts may omit the glyph or draw its strokes differently.
A historical Tangut word encountered in specialist and archival reading.
Treat it as Tangut: visual resemblance does not establish a Chinese reading.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘍠 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
