What 𘏋 means
In Tangut, 𘏋 means “full.” A scholarly Tangut wordbook records its reconstructed reading as sy₁, a notation for its estimated sound, and gives that English gloss.
The meaning is lexical, not pictorial. In the attested compound 𘏋𗣷, 𗣷 follows 𘏋 and the two characters together mean “complete.”
Is 𘏋 Chinese?
No. It is Tangut writing, a distinct script. Tangut writing was promulgated in 1036 for the Western Xia state, a state in northern China. It served official records, Buddhist translations, and other literature.
Tangut writing drew inspiration from Chinese writing and neighboring Khitan scripts, but remained a separate system. It continued in religious and other texts after Western Xia fell in 1227. Buddhist pillars erected in 1502 are the latest datable Tangut materials.
How do I type 𘏋?
Use Unicode input with a Tangut-capable font. In an input method that accepts hexadecimal Unicode, enter 183CB and confirm.
In HTML, write 𘏋; in code, use \u{183CB} where braced Unicode escapes are supported. If the character appears as a box or blank, select a font with Tangut glyphs.
