Tangut Character 18484

5253/6136

𘒄 is a Tangut character; “TANGUT IDEOGRAPH-18484” is a computer label, not its translation, so a Tangut dictionary is needed for its word or sound. The Western Xia (Xixia) state developed the Tangut script in 1036–38 to write Tangut, a language distinct from Chinese. Its writing drew on Chinese character methods but remained separate; after Western Xia fell, Tangut still appeared in official, private and Buddhist texts under later dynasties.

Why does 𘒄 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
