To type 𘒛, use a Tangut input method and a Tangut-capable font. It belongs to the historical Xixia (Tangut) script, which resembles Chinese writing but records a different language. One 1190 glossary preserves an old cross-language pronunciation clue for it.

What 𘒛 means

Use a Tangut input method and a Tangut-capable font.

Tangut input tools let you enter a character by pronunciation, by choosing its parts, or with a four-corner code based on its corner strokes. Some browser tools need a dictionary loaded before code-based entry works.

If it appears as an empty box, the text can still be valid; your browser or system needs a font that includes Tangut glyphs.

What does this Tangut character mean?

Its Unicode label identifies the character, not its meaning. Unicode generates the label from the code point. Its source record points to entry 1512 in Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese Dictionary. In the Tangut–Chinese glossary The Pearl in the Palm (1190), 𘒛 appears as a pronunciation note beside the Chinese character 末, “end” or “last.” That is a sound link, not proof that 𘒛 itself means “end.”

The Tangut script was created under the first emperor of the Western Xia state around 1036 to write Tangut, the language used in that state. After Western Xia fell to the Mongols, writing continued through the Yuan and Ming periods before becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming. Tangut signs can resemble Chinese ideographs, but the scripts and languages are distinct.

Historical and documentary; it belongs in Tangut text and scholarship.

Is 𘒛 an emoji or a Chinese character? Neither: it is a Tangut text character in a separate script.

Why does 𘒛 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
