What 𘔅 means
It means “torch” in Tangut.
An English index to a Tangut dictionary glosses entry 4557 as “torch”; Unicode’s chart links 𘔅 to that entry. A scholarly reconstruction writes its reading as zjur², a technical transcription.
Where did Tangut writing come from?
It was developed to write the Tangut language.
Tangut writing was developed in the 11th century, drawing on Chinese and Khitan models. It served Western Xia administration, law, Buddhist translation, and printing. Use continued in manuscripts and inscriptions after the state fell in 1227; the latest known Tangut inscription is dated 1502.
Why does 𘔅 look different?
Its appearance depends on the font.
A font with Tangut support can draw 𘔅 differently from another; without the glyph, a box may appear. Either display changes what you see, not the character’s identity.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘔅 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
