What 𘖒 means
It is glossed “to investigate” in Tangut. A scholarly reconstruction writes its old reading as miə, roughly “mee-uh,” with the final vowel short and unstressed.
Li Yuanhao, the Tangut emperor, ordered the script in 1036 to support a Buddhist canon—a collection of scriptures—and a distinct state identity. It took visual and structural inspiration from Chinese writing without deriving from it; neighboring Khitan scripts offered another model.
Manuscripts preserved at the ruined city of Khara-khoto include Buddhist works and translations from Chinese and Tibetan; some date to the 12th and early 13th centuries.
Historical and specialist; it belongs in Tangut-language text or discussion of Tangut writing.
