tangut ideograph-18621

Tangut first-person pronoun

5666/6136

𘘡 means “I” in Tangut, the pronoun a speaker uses for themself. Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the Tangut script in 1036 to build state identity and write Buddhist scripture in Tangut; it borrowed from Chinese writing but served a different language. Tangut writing continued after the state fell, with an inscription dated 1502. A box in its place means your font lacks Tangut coverage.

Why does 𘘡 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
