What 𘙰 means
In Tangut, 𘙰 means “same” or “alike.”
Tangut scholars write a reconstructed reading as *lew; this is a scholarly spelling, not an English pronunciation guide. In the manuscript title 𗧘𘙰, translated “Synonyms with Preface,” this character contributes the idea “same.” A colophon—a closing note in a manuscript—dates it to 1188.
𗙏𘙰 appears as the title “Homophones,” for words sharing a sound. Tangut writing was developed around 1036 for official and cultural texts under the Western Xia state, including translations from Chinese and Tibetan. Chinese writing influenced its forms, but Tangut was a separate script.
What does it mean if someone sends it alone?
By itself, it is best read as a sample of Tangut writing.
With no surrounding Tangut text, the sender may be showing the script, sharing study material, or quoting a historical text; the character alone does not tell you which.
