What 𘚝 means

In one Tangut gloss, it names drunkenness. A Buddhist poem uses it after 𘚜 (“to damage”) to gloss another unclear word; scholars read that gloss as “so drunk they could not function.”

Why does 𘚝 look Chinese?

Its design draws on Chinese writing, but it writes Tangut. Introduced in 1036 under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao, the script was designed by his minister Yeli Renrong to write Tangut and mark the state’s identity. After the kingdom fell in 1227, texts continued into China’s Ming dynasty; the latest known inscription dates to 1502.
