What ⟔ means
It joins two objects according to a shared source.
Category theory studies mathematical objects and the maps between them, drawn as arrows. A pushout starts with two arrows from one source to two objects. It completes the diagram with an object that both map into, so the two routes from the source agree.
For sets, imagine two collections with elements labelled by the same source. Take both collections together, then treat corresponding elements as one. The defining rule is that every other compatible pair of maps out of those collections passes through the pushout in exactly one way. So ⟔ signals a specific mathematical construction, not just any combination.
