What 󠇧 means
It works as a silent instruction only when attached to another character.
An ideographic variation sequence (IVS) pairs this selector with a CJK ideograph (a Han character used in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean). A registry links the pair to a glyph—the shape a font draws; 248 has no meaning without its base. If the pair is invalid or unsupported, the selector is invisible and the base appears normally.
The supplementary selector range was renamed and repositioned in 2002; the IVD's first registered collection, Adobe-Japan1, followed in 2007. A 2016 PanCJKV proposal assigned VS248 to South Korea's glyph forms for multi-region CJK fonts. Does VS248 mean Korean? No: the current IVD list omits PanCJKV as of 2026-08-03, so the mapping is not a general Korean-text rule.

Questions people ask
1Why does 󠇧 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Variation Selectors Supplement block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
