What ꄍ means
It writes the high-tone Nuosu syllable do.
Each Liangshan Yi sign writes a spoken syllable. Older Yi writing varied by region and served ritual, medical, magical, genealogical and literary texts. Dated monuments begin in the 15th–16th centuries; paper manuscripts date from around 1500. The standard was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980 to support literacy.
