What ꈚ means
In one Liangshan Yi vocabulary, it means “to wear.”
Yi Pinyin is a Latin-letter way to write Yi sounds. Here, ggat is pronounced roughly like “gah” with a high, level tone; the final t marks that tone, not an English ending.
Where did the Yi script come from?
Yi writing has local histories; the modern standard is specific to Liangshan.
The earliest surviving dated Yi example is a bronze-bell inscription from 1485. Earlier manuscript traditions were copied by bimo, local Yi priests; texts served religion, magic, medicine, and family histories. Different regions had their own forms and readings.
Modern ꈚ belongs to the Liangshan syllabary, whose signs were selected from older northern Yi forms. It was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980 to support literacy in the Liangshan dialect; it does not represent every Yi language or historical tradition.
How do I type ꈚ?
Use Yi Pinyin or a Yi input method that accepts Latin keys.
Type ggat and select ꈚ from the candidate list. Yi Pinyin is the romanized route for this syllable.
Input and display are separate: if a box appears, the current font may lack Yi Syllables coverage. Switch to a font that includes the Yi syllabary.
Use ꈚ in Liangshan Yi writing; outside it, a lone character needs context to be understood.
Don’t send it alone expecting everyone to read “to wear” or “clothing.”

1Questions people ask
3Is ꈚ safe to send as a reaction?
Only if the recipient can read Yi. Without shared Yi context, they cannot reliably translate the syllable from the glyph alone.
Why does ꈚ show as a box?
The current font may lack Yi Syllables coverage. Use a font that includes the Yi syllabary; changing input methods will not add missing font coverage.
Is ꈚ an emoji?
No. ꈚ writes a Yi syllable; it is text whose shape comes from a font, rather than emoji artwork.
