What ꉒ means
Its word meaning comes from the Yi text around it.
Hxuot is the Latin-letter spelling; final t marks high tone, not a spoken consonant. Yi writing is distinct from Chinese Han characters. A blank box means the font cannot draw ꉒ.
Yi writing became a Liangshan standard
Yi writing has local traditions. Some pottery, stone, and bronze inscriptions are identified as Yi and dated to over a thousand years ago, though their readings are debated. The earliest dated monuments are from the fifteenth century; paper texts survive from at least the late Ming dynasty.
Before standardization, Yi ritual specialists called bimo copied local forms for ritual, medicine, magic, and family histories. The Liangshan standard, devised in 1974 and official in 1980, drew on older forms; it serves Nuosu public and literary writing, not every Yi language.
A written syllable, usually read within Nuosu Yi text.
Alone, it gives too little context to tell why someone sent it.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꉒ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
