What ꂱ means
It writes Nuosu Yi mi with low-falling tone; context gives meaning. Nuosu tradition credits Aki with creating the Yi script during the Tang dynasty. The earliest surviving example is an inscription on a bronze bell dated 1485. Bimo—Yi ritual specialists—used local forms in religious, magical, medical, and genealogical manuscripts.
The standardized Liangshan form was devised in 1974 and officially promulgated in 1980 for the Nuosu language; it does not cover every Yi language. The Yi script is independent of Chinese characters and distinct from neighboring Tibetan, Burmese, and Tai scripts. Standardization fixed forms that had varied across local manuscript traditions.
It signals a specific Yi-language context; outside one, readers may not know how to read it.
Do not use it as generic Asian decoration; it is a written Nuosu Yi syllable.
