What ꉝ means
It writes one syllable in the Liangshan Yi script. Its Latin-letter spelling is ngiex. In Nuosu, the Yi language used for the Liangshan standard, it contributes a syllable within a word; the surrounding text gives the context.
In traditional Yi manuscript practice, bimo (Yi ritual specialists) used writing for ritual, medical, genealogical, and historical texts. The oldest reliably dated examples are fifteenth-century bell inscriptions. A standardized Liangshan syllabary for Nuosu schooling and publication was established in 1974. Its documented connections are to regional Yi writing traditions; a proposed link to Chinese writing remains disputed.
Use it in Yi text or when intentionally showing the script.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꉝ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Yi Syllables block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
