What ꑇ means
ꑇ spells one Nuosu syllable. Its Yi Pinyin form, njyp, ends in p to mark a low-falling tone: the voice starts low and falls further. The p is a tone marker, not an extra consonant; the syllable takes its word-level meaning from the Nuosu text around it.
Yi writing predates the modern Liangshan standard. The 15th-century Chenghua Bell Inscriptions are among its earliest dated examples, and paper Yi texts survive from around 1500. Traditionally, bimo (Yi ritual specialists) used the writing for rites, healing, scripture, and genealogy. The Liangshan standard was devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980.
Does every Yi tradition write it this way?
No; this reading belongs to the Liangshan standard. Yi writing has regional forms with different shapes and sound values. Older classical Yi texts include ideographic signs, which represent words or meanings directly, as well as variant graphs. The modern Liangshan standard is phonetic: each sign represents a syllable.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꑇ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Yi Syllables block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
