What ꀺ means
It writes a Nuosu syllable, not an English translation.
Yi writing varied by region; the earliest securely dated surviving example is an inscription on a bronze bell from 1485. Bimo (Yi ritual specialists) used traditional forms in religious, magical, medical and family-history texts. Devised in 1974 and promulgated in 1980, the Liangshan standard covers Nuosu, one Yi language, not every Yi language. The script is distinct from Han Chinese writing and was not derived from Han characters.
