What ⍐ means
It is an APL programming symbol for working with files.
APL is a programming language that uses mathematical-looking symbols to express operations on data. The arrow and its surrounding frame form one character: the box is part of the notation, not a decorative border.
In the early-1970s Burroughs APL/700 system, ⍐ meant “take”: select a portion from the beginning or end of a file. Files were treated as ordered lists of components, each holding a value or collection of values. This is a historical use, not a universal command shared by all APL systems.
