arabic letter tteheh initial form

Arabic Letter Tteheh, Initial Form

17/631

ﭠ is the initial, word-start shape of the Sindhi letter ٺ, transliterated ṭh. Sindhi adapted the Arabic script with extra or rearranged dots to write sounds Arabic does not distinguish. In ordinary Sindhi text, use ٺ; shaping software can display its joining form.

Text symbol

What ﭠ means

It is the word-initial form of the Sindhi letter ٺ. Its sound is commonly written ṭh: a t-like sound made with the tongue curled back, followed by a breathy release. This glyph is a spelling form, not a word or a symbol with a separate meaning.

Sindhi writing adapted the Arabic-derived script for sounds not distinguished in Arabic, including by adding or rearranging dots. A manuscript dated 1067–1069 AH shows this dot-based strategy in the wider Persian-Arabic Sindhi tradition; it does not date this individual letter’s creation. In 1853, a standardized 52-letter Sindhi-Arabic system was introduced for administration and education.

The base letter is also recorded for early Persian, Pegon writing, and Malagasy. Its sound depends on the language and spelling system.

Should I type ﭠ or ٺ?

For ordinary Sindhi text, use the base letter ٺ. Software that shapes Arabic-script text selects an initial, medial, final, or isolated display from the letter’s place in a word.

ﭠ is a compatibility presentation form: it preserves a pre-shaped appearance in older data, while NFKC normalization can convert it to ٺ. If you need to retain this exact encoded form, normalization may change it.

A box or an unjoined shape usually points to missing font or shaping support. The display problem does not change which Sindhi letter it represents.

A specialized Sindhi spelling form; by itself, it can be hard to recognize outside its word.

ﭠ is the initial form of Sindhi ٺ, not a standalone Arabic-language symbol.

Questions people ask

3

Why does ﭠ change to ٺ?

Because ﭠ is a compatibility presentation form. NFKC normalization maps it to the base Sindhi letter ٺ; shaping software then chooses the displayed joining form from context.

Why does ﭠ appear as a box or the wrong shape?

The font may lack this extended Arabic-script glyph, or the text system may not shape joining forms correctly. That affects its display, not its identity.

Is ﭠ used as an Arabic letter?

It is a positional form of a letter used in extended Arabic-script writing, especially Sindhi. It is not a standalone symbol with a general Arabic meaning.
