What ࢜ means
In Indonesia’s standard printed Qur’an, it sits over the long-vowel letter before hamza. Other editions mark recitation rules differently; follow the notation in your copy.
Older maddah marks guided extra-long pronunciation in Arabic manuscripts. A copy of Ibn al-Nadīm’s Fihrist, a book catalogue dated around 987–1000 CE, shows one before hamza. Regional Qur’an editions give such cues more specific reading rules.
