What ꛢ means
It is a Bamum syllabary letter romanized “men.”
In a Bamum word, ꛢ is one syllabic writing unit; the surrounding letters form the word. By itself, it is a letter sample or a way to check whether a font can display Bamum.
How do I type ꛢ?
Use a Bamum keyboard layout or Unicode input.
For repeated writing, the proposed Bamum keyboard places “men” among its final four syllabic keys. For occasional entry, use Unicode input for UA6E2 in an app that supports it.
How did the Bamum script develop?
The earliest surviving dated Bamum manuscripts in the supplied research are from 1897. From 1896–1910, King Njoya and palace advisers revised the script through six phases. Early versions used pictographic and word-sign forms; the final A-ka-u-ku phase was a syllabary, a writing system whose signs represent syllables.
The script was developed to write Bamum and support record-keeping and education. Njoya’s court used it for histories, correspondence, legal records, maps, medicine, religious writing, and schoolwork.
