What 𖦯 means
It’s a historical Bamum letter from Phase E.
King Ibrahim Njoya began the Bamum writing project around 1896–1897; a manuscript of the first version is dated 1897. The early signs acted as memory aids for objects and actions. Later revisions reshaped and reduced the repertoire for writing language and for use in schooling, court records, history, law, medicine, maps, religion, and correspondence. Phase E, its fifth revision, was developed around 1907–1908.
Across phases A–E, signs were largely ideographic: a sign could stand for an idea or a word. Phase F moved more decisively toward syllabic writing, in which signs represent syllables; later Bamum uses Phase G. “Mfeuq” is a transcription label, not an English gloss. The Bamum project took shape in a region where Arabic- and Latin-script writing were also present. Its staged changes have been compared with Vai writing, another African script; that comparison is about development, not shared ancestry.
Archival and specialist: relevant to historians and linguists working with historical Bamum texts.
For modern Bamum spelling, use the later Phase G repertoire; this character belongs to Phase E.

𖦯\169AFWhy is 𖦯 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
