What 𖧐 means
It is a historical Bamum character last recorded in Phase E.
In Ibrahim Njoya’s own account, a dream prompted the idea. He and palace advisers developed the script for the Bamum language in the Bamum Kingdom, in western Cameroon. The earliest surviving manuscript of the first version is dated 1897.
Early signs pictured objects and actions and served as memory aids. Later writers reused signs for their sounds; successive revisions reduced the system to a syllabary, where each sign represents a syllable. Bamum writing carried chronicles, government records, maps, medical and religious works, correspondence, and court records.
