What 𖧗 means
It is a letter from an earlier stage of the Bamum script. The script took shape in 1896–1910, chiefly under King Ibrahim Njoya and court collaborators, to write the Bamum language. The earliest surviving manuscript is dated 1897.
The first signs represented ideas; later, signs were also used for words with similar sounds, and revisions gradually formed a syllabary—a set of signs for syllables. Bamum writing served palace administration, histories, legal records, schools, maps, and religious works.
Why does 𖧗 show as a box?
A box means the font lacks this historical Bamum glyph.
Modern Bamum writing uses the later Phase-G syllabary; earlier characters such as 𖧗 appear mainly in specialist linguistic and historical work. A character can be present even when the available font cannot display it.
A historical Bamum letter for archival, linguistic, and heritage contexts.
Use it as a Bamum letter, not as decoration for a Latin O.
