What 𖦄 means
It is a Bamum letter from historical Phase E. The Bamum script began around 1896 in Cameroon. King Ibrahim Njoya and palace scribes developed it to record the Bamum language, history, and administration. Early signs pictured things or represented words and ideas as memory aids; revisions simplified them.
Peem is this letter’s name, not an English word. Phase E took shape around 1907–1908 and was used in a Bible translation. As of 2026, modern Bamum uses Phase G, a syllabary where each sign represents a spoken syllable.
