What 𖧍 means

The Bamum Piet is a historical Phase-E letter. “Piet” is its name written in Latin letters, not an English gloss. Its reading in a passage depends on the historical spelling system used there.

The Bamum script developed between 1896 and 1910, chiefly under King Ibrahim Njoya with collaborators at his palace, to write the Bamum language. An early manuscript is dated 1897. Its first form used hundreds of signs for objects and actions; later phases moved toward signs for spoken syllables.

Phase E is one of the older Bamum stages; Phase G is the modern form. Across the phases, signs could be removed or given new values, so this character's name or shape alone cannot establish how it functioned in a particular text.

Someone sent me 𖧍—can I translate it?

Not without the surrounding historical Bamum text. In a Phase-E passage, read it with the neighboring signs and the document's own system for writing Bamum in Latin letters. “Piet” is a label, not a translation key.

Historical and specialist: it belongs in material about older Bamum writing, not as a free-standing message.

Treat “Piet” as a label, not an English definition.

Why is 𖧍 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
