What ⛨ means
On Japanese maps, ⛨ marks a hospital.
The earlier Japanese hospital sign was a flat badge with a red line in provisional maps published from 1884, probably modeled on Hakuaisha’s mark. In 1887, Hakuaisha became the Japanese Red Cross Society and adopted its emblem; maps used an outlined white cross in 1891. The black cross on a badge appeared in 1895, based on an old Army medical corps insignia. Japan’s broadcast text standard, ARIB STD B24, later included the map sign.
