What ㆮ means
It marks an “ai” sound with resonance through the nose.
Bopomofo spells Mandarin sounds in Taiwan. Taiwan’s phonetic system for local languages grew from it and dates to 1946. In 1948, 24 Bopomofo extensions for Minnan (Southern Min) and Hakka, including ㆮ, were designed to write sounds the basic set lacked. ㆮ is a final, the vowel ending of a syllable. In ㄆㆮˋ it follows ㄆ, the starting consonant; ˋ marks tone.
The Ministry of Education’s 2024 Tâi-lô revision lists ainn among its special syllable endings.
Technical, language-specific phonetic notation.

1Questions people ask
1Why does ㆮ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
