What ╥ means
It keeps a mixed-weight text border continuous at a junction.
These box-drawing characters come from computer character sets used before 1990, including China's GB 2312, Korea's KS X 1001, and vendor and terminal graphics sets. The Unicode chart also records mappings to Videotex mosaic graphics, used in early on-screen information services.
Each stroke is designed to reach its cell edge, so neighboring glyphs can form an unbroken line. Monospaced text keeps cells aligned; proportional spacing or missing font support can leave a gap.
Structural and technical: a building block for fixed-cell text diagrams.
A line-weight mismatch can make a continuous border look broken.

3Questions people ask
1Why does ╥ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
